WHAT DOES THE GREENBRIER INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL PTA DO?
What is GRI PTA? GRI PTA is a group of parents, teachers and community members who work together to provide programs and activities for the children. PTA is not a social club, but we do have fun working together for the children and the school.
What does PTA provide to the school? The PTA provides enrichment programs for our children both financially and with volunteers . Every year we participate in the National PTA Reflections Program, an art, literature, photography ,film production, dance choreography and music, contest. The PTA also organizes community building events such as Krendls Magic Show, Sock Hop, Skating Parties and Field Day.
How does PTA raise money? The PTA organizes fundraisers, such as Book Fairs, Basket Raffle, Candy Bar sales, Skating Parties and Restaurant Nights. These fundraisers provide us with the money to give back to our school and children. Some of the ongoing budgeted items include : school planners, Grade level grants that allow teachers to buy additional educational materials for their classroom, a $400 Scholarship for a Indian River High School senior. Field Day, Teacher Appreciation Week, the Winter and Spring Programs, Leadership programs, Awards, Acts of Kindness and a Discretionary Fund that pays for students in need. (Such as providing money for a field trip.) In addition, each year the PTA looks at special requests from parents and school staff. In years past, we have purchased Recorder cases for the 4th grade, the marquee out front, and a Smart Board. Last year our focus was on Literacy. This year we are going to add playground equipment.
Who can belong to PTA? Parents, Teachers, Grandparents, Community members, and anyone who cares about our youth.
How can I help? Join the PTA, participate in fundraisers and volunteer at PTA events. We have many fun events like Field Day and Skating Parties. We encourage all families to participate in any way possible. There are many ways to help. We are always looking for volunteers.
When does the PTA meet? First Thursday of the month, usually in Room 703 at 6pm. Sometimes they are moved to coincided with a school event (i.e. concert or play) and General meeting. We try to make it so that no one has to come out more than once a month for a meeting. Please call the office if you are unsure.
Should I attend the PTA meetings? Yes!! Important issues are discussed and voted on at each PTA meeting! The first PTA meeting is usually the most important, as we review and vote on the yearly budget. Of course it is not required that you attend every meeting. We do encourage you to come to at least one meeting a year to see what we do.
